FAMILY PHOTO ARCHIVE

The months of January/February was mostly allocated towards generating the digital photos archive for my cousines in France. That was not the most exciting photo project transforming all our family photo-slides into digital but it was worth while. Below is my setting for the photo slides.

They were extremely dirty. I followed kodak's intructions from their webiste.

"UNDER THE STARS" - ANOTHER PATHWORK

Thirty years ago when I came to London and worked at Claridge's, a colleague's mother introduced me to Patchwork. And I have been at it ever since, well on and off. However, I got stuck with the star pattern lately and with the blues... This needs to change. It is time to be more explorative with this form of expression. Finishing touches remain to do.

Novelty here for me is the wadding and the assembling. The filling is a composed of recycled down feathers. The feathers were carded into a 1.5 cm of fluffy fibre preparation. A little bit expensive on the purchase - £100 the meter.

However, it is a bliss to sleep under this filling. No electric blanket needed so on the long run it is good investment.

The back is forming the front border and the sewing was also not conventional. First, all diagonals (left to right) were done in blue threat, then the opposing diagonal and vertical lines were done in different colours and randomly.

GOOD NEWS - POLKA-DOT PALM TREE

The Polka-dot Palm Tree is finally standing erect. Better planning would have helped probably. But, it is a challenge when you depend on resources you find rather than purchase. Still, I am astonished that when it comes to coloured plastics, the choice is rather limited and very conservative (Blue and pink). Nevertheless, I managed to find additional colours to make it more interesting. The infrastructure is established. Only the lighting remains to design. I don't want to give out too much so not to spoil the surprise but here are a few pictures.

The Polka-Dot Palm Tree

The fourth structure is not far behind. I gathered tools and created a workshop in a little corner of my sitting which should facilitate that work.

Of course thank you so much to the Kennington Park Café in providing and helping with the collection of white buckets.

CALL FOR PLASTICS

I am currently still seeking disregarded coloured storage boxes. I am mostly looking for bright coloured transparent ones. Thickness should be around 1 mm and rigidity wise you should be able to bend it slightly. I am not looking for hard plastics right now. If you have some, just drop them at the back of my flat. Thank you.

MORE GOOD NEWS

The children's festival is on again this summer. I am seriously looking for some help to run the workshop this year. Please contact me via email if interested. I still have all those pictures I have taken last year. My intend is to try to do a video using photoshop since I never used this software for that. But for the event I will try to print a poster to exhibit on the day.

FUNCTIONAL ART

I finally created a page to host all my functional art. I initially wanted to create a page for each item but that was not sustainable.

For my friendly critiques - some feedback would be appreciated.

THE STORY OF BOUTON

Bouton started as a stool. One of the base planks had two openings for the hand. This is my own design.

But Bouton wanted to be more. So a table top was designed.

The table top is secure via a removable rubber band. So when bouton reverts to its stool function, Bouton looks likes this now

This design was not foreseen, it just occurred. This face profile will most likely remind you of something or someone. For me this sombre profile, uncannily, reminds of the smirk and "I told you so look", found on the Moai Easter Island statues.

This tale is somewhat autobiographical.

AND FINALLY... to relax I have been playing around with this...

I can't tell you what it is... but I can tell the main object that triggered this... some led weight for fishing lines.

and that would be all for now.
